Have you ever found yourself procrastinating a home or organization project because you didn’t have the time or resources to make it “perfect?”
A recent client of mine was faced with this dilemma as she debated on how to approach the organization of her pantry. Her dream is to have a pantry with built-in shelving but she wasn’t sure if it was the right time. We discussed the pro’s and con’s:
Pros of built-in shelving:
- Aesthetically pleasing
- Adds value to the home
Cons of built-in shelving:
- Expensive
- Somewhat permanent – no flexibility to change the function of the room

Ultimately, we agreed that free standing shelving units would be a good long term/temporary solution for this closet. These shelves are reasonably priced, they are durable, and you can get them online or at a hardware store.
After de-cluttering, trying out different sized shelving units, and rearranging the shelves, we came up with the end product below:

If my client decides she wants to custom shelves down the road, she can certainly have them installed, but she doesn’t have to store items on the ground until that day comes. In the meantime, she can enjoy a fully functional pantry with plenty of additional room!

Moral of the story: don’t let perfection prevent progress!
